The short answer
If a hard drive, SSD, USB stick, NAS or server has failed, WaTo Consulting in Adelaide can diagnose it and try to get the files back. You get an honest assessment and quote before recovery work starts, and recovered files are delivered on a new drive or to your cloud storage.
What is a data recovery rescue?
A data recovery rescue is an emergency project to retrieve files from a storage device that's failed, been corrupted or had data accidentally deleted. It might be a hard drive that's clicking, an SSD that's stopped being recognised, a USB stick with critical files, or a server that won't boot. The process involves diagnosing the failure, using specialised tools to extract the data, and delivering the recovered files on a new, healthy device. It isn't guaranteed, but in most cases we can get back what matters.
What we deliver
Hard drive recovery
Data recovered from mechanical hard drives with logical failures, firmware issues, bad sectors or mechanical damage, from desktop, laptop and external drives.
SSD recovery
Solid-state drives with controller failures, firmware corruption or NAND degradation assessed and recovered using specialist SSD tools and techniques.
USB and flash media recovery
USB sticks, SD cards and other flash storage with corrupted file systems, accidental formatting or physical damage, with files extracted where possible.
Server and NAS recovery
Failed RAID arrays, NAS units and server drives assessed and rebuilt to recover business-critical data from multi-disk configurations.
Deleted file recovery
Accidentally deleted files, emptied recycle bins and formatted drives scanned for recoverable data. Results are best when the drive hasn't been written to since deletion.
Data transfer to new media
Recovered files delivered on a new external drive, USB stick or uploaded to your cloud storage, organised and ready to use.
Who it's for
- Businesses that have lost critical files due to a hard drive or server failure and don't have a current backup.
- Individuals who've accidentally deleted photos, documents or other irreplaceable personal files.
- Organisations with a failed NAS or RAID array that need their data recovered before rebuilding the system.
- Anyone with a storage device that's stopped working and contains files they can't afford to lose.
How it works
- You bring us the device. Drop off the failed drive, USB, NAS or laptop at our Adelaide workshop, or ship it to us if you're not local. The sooner the better, especially for mechanical failures.
- We diagnose the failure. A thorough assessment of the device: what failed, why, and what the realistic chances of recovery are. We give you an honest appraisal before any work begins.
- We attempt the recovery. Using specialised tools and techniques matched to the failure type: logical recovery for corrupted file systems, deeper extraction for hardware faults.
- We show you what we recovered. A file listing of everything we've been able to extract, so you can confirm the important files are there before we finalise.
- We deliver your data. Recovered files transferred to a new external drive, USB stick or your preferred cloud storage, ready for you to use and properly back up this time.
Why WaTo for data recovery
- We're honest about recovery chances upfront. If the data isn't recoverable, we'll tell you before charging for the attempt.
- We handle the full range, from quick logical recoveries to complex multi-disk RAID rebuilds.
- Your data stays local and secure. We don't send drives interstate or offshore for processing.
- Adelaide-based with fast turnaround for urgent recoveries, because lost data rarely waits for a convenient time.
- We've been rescuing data for businesses and individuals since 2001. We've seen every type of failure and recovered from most of them.
Data recovery questions
How much does data recovery cost?
It depends on the failure type and complexity. Simple logical recoveries start at a few hundred dollars. More complex hardware failures cost more. We always provide a diagnosis and quote before starting recovery work, so there are no surprises.
Should I try recovery software myself first?
For accidental deletion on a working drive, consumer recovery software can sometimes help. But if the drive is making noises, isn't being detected or has suffered a physical failure, running software on it can make things worse. Bring it to us first.
Can you recover data from an encrypted drive?
If you have the encryption password or recovery key, yes, we can decrypt and recover. Without the key, encryption is designed to prevent access and recovery isn't possible.
How long does recovery take?
Simple recoveries can be turned around in one to two days. Complex hardware failures or large RAID arrays may take a week or more. We'll give you a realistic timeframe during the diagnosis.
