The short answer
Staff can work securely from home when files sit in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, every account has multi-factor sign-in and work laptops are managed and can be wiped remotely. WaTo Consulting sets this up for Adelaide businesses, tests it from a real home connection and gives the team a one-page guide for getting help.
What does remote work IT setup involve?
We move files and shared drives somewhere staff can reach from anywhere, usually Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, and turn on multi-factor sign-in so a stolen password is not enough to get in. Laptops are set up and managed the same way whether they sit in the office or on a kitchen table. We also sort out the practical parts at home, such as video calls, headsets, printing and how staff ask for help when something stops working.

Support for people
Give staff clear ways to get help when remote technology does not behave.
Who it is for
- A business still relying on a server in the office that staff reach through a shaky VPN.
- Teams where some people work from home a couple of days a week and files keep getting emailed back and forth.
- Field staff, such as tradies or consultants, who need job details and documents on a phone or tablet while on site.
- An owner who is not sure which personal devices are being used to open business email.
How it works
- We see how people work now. We note who works from where, what they need to open and which devices they use, including personal ones.
- We fix access first. Files move to cloud storage or a secure remote connection is set up, and multi-factor sign-in goes on every account.
- We prepare the devices. Work laptops get encryption, updates and remote management through tools like Intune, and home printers or second screens are connected where needed.
- We test from a real home connection. A staff member logs in from home while we watch for slow file access, poor call quality or missing permissions, then we write a one-page guide for the team.

Remote work IT setup questions
Do we still need a VPN?
Often not. If your files and apps are in Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or other cloud services, staff can reach them securely without one. A VPN still makes sense if you have a server or software that only runs in the office, and we help you work out which applies.
Can staff use their own computers at home?
They can, but it needs some rules. We can limit what a personal device is able to download or keep, so business data stays in business apps and can be removed if the person leaves. For staff handling sensitive information, a work laptop is usually the safer choice.
What about home internet that keeps dropping out?
We can check the home setup and tell you whether the problem is the Wi-Fi, where the router sits or the NBN service itself. Sometimes a better router or a cable to the desk is enough. If the service is at fault, we help the staff member raise it with their provider.
