POS printer strategy and deployment in Adelaide
WaTo plans and deploys POS printer setups that actually work: receipt printers at the counter, kitchen printers at the pass, bar printers, label printers and anything else your operation needs. We figure out the right printer types, connection methods and routing rules so the right docket lands at the right station every time. No more lost orders, reprints or mystery tickets.

The short answer
A POS printer strategy decides which printers go where, how they connect and how the POS routes each docket, so food reaches the kitchen, drinks the bar and receipts the counter. In Adelaide, WaTo Consulting chooses thermal or impact printers per station, configures routing, tests with real orders and plans a fallback for when a printer fails.
What is a POS printer strategy?
A POS printer strategy is a planned approach to which printers go where, how they connect, and how your POS routes orders to each one. It sounds simple until you're running a café with a counter printer, a kitchen printer and a bar printer, all needing different dockets from the same order. Get the strategy wrong and you get missed orders, duplicate prints and frustrated staff. Get it right and dockets just appear where they need to, every time.
What we deliver
Printer needs assessment
We map out every print station your operation needs (counter receipts, kitchen dockets, bar tickets, labels) based on how your venue actually runs.
Hardware selection
The right printer for each station: thermal for speed and silence up front, impact for heat and humidity in the kitchen, Bluetooth or Ethernet based on your layout.
Network and connectivity
Printers connected via Ethernet, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth depending on the station, with reliable connections that don't drop mid-service.
POS routing configuration
Order routing rules configured in your POS so food goes to the kitchen printer, drinks go to the bar printer, and receipts print at the counter, all automatically.
Installation and testing
Every printer installed, mounted where needed, tested with real orders from your POS and verified across all routing scenarios before go-live.
Spare and fallback planning
Backup printer strategies so a single failure doesn't halt your kitchen, including spare units, rerouting rules and quick-swap procedures.
Our clients, our shout-out
We keep their receipt and kitchen printers printing through service. They look after Adelaide's coffee. Go give them a follow.
Who it's for
- Cafés and restaurants setting up a new POS and needing printers that work with it from day one.
- Venues upgrading or replacing unreliable printers that drop connection, jam or print to the wrong station.
- Multi-station operations (kitchens, bars, counters) where order routing needs to be planned properly.
- Retail businesses needing receipt printers, barcode label printers or both connected to their POS.
How it works
- We map your print stations. A site visit to understand your layout, service flow and every point where a docket or receipt needs to land.
- We recommend the right printers. Specific models chosen for each station, factoring in environment, connection method, POS compatibility and your budget.
- We configure routing in your POS. Order categories mapped to printers so your POS sends the right items to the right station: food to kitchen, drinks to bar, receipts to counter.
- We install and test on-site. Printers mounted, connected, loaded with paper and tested with real orders, with every routing scenario verified before we leave.
- We document and hand over. Your team gets a clear guide to paper replacement, basic troubleshooting and what to do if a printer goes offline, plus our number for when they need backup.
Why WaTo for POS printer strategy
- We plan the full printer strategy instead of selling you hardware and leaving you to figure out the routing yourself.
- We work with all major POS platforms and know which printers are compatible with each, so you aren't guessing or sending printers back.
- We spec printers for the environment: impact printers for hot kitchens, thermal for clean counters, Bluetooth for tight spaces.
- Adelaide-based with same-day support when a printer goes down during service.
- We've been connecting printers to POS systems for small businesses since 2001, and we know what works and what doesn't.
POS printer strategy questions
Should we use Ethernet or Bluetooth printers?
It depends on the station. Ethernet is more reliable for fixed locations like a kitchen pass. Bluetooth suits tight counters or mobile setups where running a cable isn't practical. We'll recommend the right connection for each printer based on your venue.
Why do kitchen printers need to be different?
Kitchen environments are hot, greasy and humid. Thermal receipt printers can struggle in that environment because the paper can darken or fade. Impact (dot-matrix) printers handle heat better and produce dockets that stay readable even near a grill or fryer.
Can you fix our existing printer setup?
Often, yes. If your printers are the right models but misconfigured or unreliably connected, we can reconfigure routing, upgrade connections and get things working properly without replacing hardware.
What happens if a printer dies mid-service?
With a proper strategy, your POS can reroute orders to a backup printer or a different station. We build fallback rules into the setup so a single printer failure doesn't bring your kitchen to a halt.
